I painted this after visiting Burney Falls State Park one winter. If you were raised in the lazy flatlands of the South, nothing can really prepare you for the majesty of the waterfalls. But even the rush of the falls finds its way to quiet streams. This painting reminds me of both adventure and peace.

To me, this painting represents the storms life throws at us. Often, these storms leave behind a deeper awareness of the beauty life has to offer, if we will just hang in there.
Our Arab-cross mare, Hylla, posed for this painting. She was a stubborn, bomb-proof, eternally hungry, selectively lazy, all-around awesome horse. This painting represents our “summer streams.” In the rainy season they flow into the swamps and pour into the sinkholes. In the dry seasons they may disappear for a while, but never for good.
